3 MOST COMMON DOUBTS THAT STUDENTS HAVE ABOUT PTE TRAINING

PTE is one of the most common English language proficiency tests that international students take when planning to study in Australia. Most of the educational institutions recognize and accept PTE and IELTS score as benchmark for knowledge of English for students coming from non-English-speaking nations. As founder of one of the top PTE coaching institutes in Melbourne, we come across variety of students from different backgrounds and countries on a regular basis.

Well, all the students come with a different approach and mindset, and we try to remove whatsoever doubt(s) they may have regarding PTE – both as training and test.
Here are some of the most common doubts that international students have regarding PTE training.

PTE is Tougher/Easier than IELTS

Pearson Test of English is yet another English language proficiency test and cannot be compared to any other despite its modules being the same. All the English language proficiency tests gauge the taker on four different parameters – reading, writing, listening and speaking – and so does PTE.

One cannot say that it is easier or tougher as compared to IELTS, for it has a different format altogether. With minimal human intervention both pre- and post-test, takers generally claim the level of test to be subjective, meaning depending from person to person. One can gauge the difference only when he/she has taken both the tests.

Therefore, there is nothing like that PTE is easier/tougher as compared to IELTS or any other test for that matter; it entirely depends on how the test-taker considers it.

PTE is Different from IELTS

Yes, PTE is an altogether different English language proficiency exam, different from IELTS, TOEFL, etc. However, like any other test, it gauges the test-taker on four different factors/parameters, i.e., reading, writing, speaking and listening.

When it comes to scores, PTE is different from all other tests. While a person gets “bands” in IELTS’ results, the test-taker gets score out of 90 in PTE. Anything over and above 79 is considered great.

A 65 in PTE is equivalent to a 7.0 in IELTS.

Is PTE Mandatory to Enrol in Desired Program?

PTE is recognized by all the educational institutions in Australia; however, same is not the case when it comes to Canada. Most of the Australian educational institutes also recognize and accept IELTS too!

So, in case one is seeking admission in any program in Australia, PTE is acceptable, but not mandatory, for one can even take IELTS.

However, it is mandatory for international students from non-English-speaking nations to clear at least one English language proficiency test, which in case of Australia can be either IELTS or PTE; else he/she won’t be able to enrol in any course.
